Anybody bedded braces in Carbon Fiber tape? Me been thinkin of doing just that. About 3 layers of 5.7oz. stuff under the parallel braces on a carved arch top . Also thought of laminating it into the neck groove and maybe even loosing the truss rod. Note: Tape is a term used in the composite industry to describe narrow fabric...there is no adhesive on this...as such me will probably use epoxie or what ever resin me can get me hands. Anybody done this? Any suggestions? thanks ![]() |

The further you can get the fiber from the carved top the more effect it will have. Under the braces won't add anything significant... Physics and vectors and engineering stuff. Mikey |

yeah, between the top and the brace is pretty close to being on the neutral axis. This isn't a way to avoid having to make a good tight fit of the braces to the top, is it? Nah, Duh Padma wouldn't do that. I'm an X brace guy for my archtops, FWIW. |

I have used loose carbon tow in neck slots with epoxy to create cast in place stiffening bars. It works prettly well but the bars are not as strong as the commercial bars. |

I'm not sure if we will be talking about the same thing Padma, but I've done 1/2 dozen ukuleles with 6K CF tow laminated on the top and bottom of a balsa lattice as per the Greg Smallman design used in Classical Guitars. The bottom layup doesn't do much to the stiffness but extends out under the linings. Shape the lattice to your desired profile and then another layer of 6K CF tow. Unbelievably stiff afterwards. |

Could somebody explain what you mean by 'tow'? Not grocking the context.... Thanks |
