No shop happenings from me, fathers day was spent driving home from the A.S.I.A. symposium at East Stroudsburg Pa. It was a wonderful 3 days hanging with people of the same obsession with guitars and other string instruments. Great workshops presented by very dedicated builders, the only problem was choosing which one to attend in each time slot. Those who were not able to attend missed a grerat time.

Built an outside mold for #2 - an OM cutaway...curly walnut B&S, bear claw Sitka top. This one is being commissioned by my 11 year old but I have waived the deposit and hopes are not high for even partial payment.

Don't let fear or common sense stop you from trying to build something

Working on some tables for a local retail shop. Black oak for the perimeter, the inside bins are prefinished 1/2" Nova ply capped with the oak. The money will fund some instruments that will be sold in this shop.

I displayed some repair work and a few modified electrics at a local guitar show this weekend. There were 14 vendors all having a good time eating BBQ and playing jazz and rock. I think the only vendor who sold anything was the guy selling PA gear and recording studio stuff. Glad there were no fees charged, as I made bumpkas for the weekend.

My older son decided to fall face first down a flight of stairs onto a concrete floor, resulting in a tennis ball sized knot on his forehead and a trip to the ER for Father's Day. He is fine. No skull fracture, or concussion, just a bad bump. Although, the swelling has slipped down his forehead to his eye and he now sports a swollen, black eye as a result, he is really fine.

It was a great weekend!

I'm sick of sanding for now so it was just cad work for me...developing a baritone neck for my guitars...and the tooling that goes with it.

Made a couple simple A-frame guitar stands. The finished stand in the pictures was a prototype I made for testing. It proved to be quite stable provided there’s suitable peg spacing and suede or some other friction producing padding is used on the pegs. The pictures are self explanatory, I think. One thing to note is that the top edge of the stretcher is shaped so the tail of the guitar doesn’t catch on it when placing on the stand.

I drove the bus all weekend on the lined ribs of a J45. My arms and hands are well aware of this today. I trust pictures of this process are NOT necessary.

If you prefer not to have muscles that big, check out Page 10-12. (Scribe, take off the bulk with a block plane, finesse the bevel (and only that) by "driving the bus"). All up, should take ~10 minutes max, leaving you plenty of time to go to the gym.

ANYWAY LOOK AT THIS!!!
The wife has been on a remodeling binge and one of the workers saw my guitars, he asked "think you could use some Honduras Mahogany"? He said he had a board he got off a woman locally who's dad used to make Mahogany boats back in the 50's. He just dropped this off, 16' wide at the bottom.........one piece backs?

I found and restored a sweetheart no. 6, started working on a les paul junior again, and began work on my parlor guitar design.

16 feet wide?!?!?! That is a serious piece of Honduran! In all seriousness, that is incredible even at 16". I wish I could run into some wood of that caliber locally.

It was scribed, pre tapered and block planed to near shap, but I still had to do some bus driving:)

I finished one of the J40s! One more to go.
