Karen and I bought a place up in Anacotes, WA which is about a 50 minute car ride plus a 30 minute ferry crossing from PT. I’ve lived in the same town for 46 years and am looking forward to the chance to learn a new area. We will technically be on an island but will have much easier access to Seattle (granddaughter), our ski cabin, and we will be a 30 minute drive to the La Conner guitar show!!

Here is a shot of about half of my new shop space (17’x33’). It’s currently got an English pub vibe which includes a kegerator and a wine fridge. Unfortunately those two items will have to go. This will be the stationary tool side. Looking forward to bigger space!

Wow! Very cool space. It'll be fun to see how you set up in there.

Best I can do is a small, really small shop that has a sweat shop look to it...

I installed AC units to take the sweat out of it. None of my guitars need to be made in a humid environment.

The first order of business will be to paint the black wainscoting a brown walls a lighter color. Look forward to having you up for a visit. Unfortunately we’ll have to drink beer out of the upstairs kitchen fridge. Needs must...

If you want my mill, you will REALLY want my neighbor's mill...

He machines aluminum exclusively, and he has offered to let me kinda work there on the side and I can learn how to use this monstrosity while I am at it... I plan to ask him to make me a few aluminum radius blocks...

As for the mini split, it was installed today. It cools for 10 minutes then the compressor shuts off after it makes a loud hissing sound. Then 1 hour later it would work normally again, and then shut off with the hissing sound. So forth and so on... but the time that it does work seem to get longer and longer. Do you think it could be the low pressure switch not getting used to being a new installation (it probably had no freon in it prior to being installed, it was used)

I should also mention I do not have to buy an air compressor... Since my neighbor uses those 2 monstrosities, those thing need a LOT of air to do a tool change, so he has a 7HP Swan Air silent compressor. He extended an airline into my shop so I can use his air, don't have to go fork out for what is likely a non-silent, probably 3-5HP air compressor. I guess he did this so I don't get a loud compressor that would annoy him...

Wow! I'd find a way to make it work as is, lol!

Though maybe a kegerator in the shop isn't really the best idea...

Getting insurance could prove to be a problem, otherwise I'm in!

WOW that's half the space? Dang! I'd leave the bar in personally, you could attract some more customers that way :D

That's a beautiful looking shop. What is the floor?

The floor looks great. I don't even have enough toys to fill that place but it would be nice trying. You have a lot of nice space there.

Wow, I have shop size envy  My whole shop is 15 x 22 or about 1/3 of 1/2 your new shop. Nice space!!

That looks like a nice space. I think I would wall off the front half for the stationary tools and add a billiard table to the back half. It would be a better fit with the kegerator and wine fridge. bliss

I do have a question though, that looks like a very nice space, but woodworking is a VERY dusty operation.

So if you will have a wood shop with all the tools, sanders, etc. and have a space for pool tables, desks, you know normal non-shop things, how do you keep the dust away from that?

It looks nice and all but "I would hate if all the dust ruined it"...

No problem. I keep my shop very clean. I have excellent dust collection on all stationary tools and sanders. I also have one of those vacuum robot gizmos that is programmed to runs around the shop after hours. All I have to do now is train it climb up on the pool table and give it the once over. [:Y:]

Post subject:  Re: Did I mention that we are moving?

I tried dust collection via a dust collector or shop vac and no matter how good of a dust collection I made fine dust still got on everything.

As long as you're ok with a thin layer of fine dust on everything... I know they got one of those gizmos that hangs on the shop ceiling to get the airborne dust but I can't find it in Taiwan.

You need to try a good two stage cyclone like this one.

They don't sell that in Taiwan... (shipping will be too much)

Most woodworkers here are just content with dust on everything in the shop...

It is actually much easier to buy the mill that I have (and much bigger) at a low price than woodworking machines. They are rare as hen's teeth here.

I find my shop is better with a 24/7 HEPA filter. When I can afford to, I want to buy the wynn environmental filters that fit the delta and steel city air 'cleaners' for more cfm...

Post subject:  Re: Did I mention that we are moving?

I can build a box and put high cfm fan in it, but finding filters (just normal ones) that won’t break the bank is a challenge too
