Post subject:  Quick question on slot head tuners

I'm building a slot head neck and got these tuners for cheap. They're marked "Grover" and came with bushings like regular "paddle head" tuners. Do the bushings go on just like "paddle head" ones or do they go in the middle part of the neck? Looks like the post would work better with them in the middle. I really don't know, but maybe one you have installed some like these.

Thanks,
Mike S.

Those are either/or tuners as you can see by the two string holes. If you use them for a slot head don't bother with the bushings (how would you drill for them?) If you use them for a paddle head then you would use the bushings.

I've used the bushings on those type of tuners on a slot head. Drill the hole for the shaft before slotting the peghead the correct size for the shaft. After cutting and shaping the slots, redrill the outside part of the hole for the bushing size. I ran the drill in reverse to better control any grabbing of the bit. Press the bushing in on the inside of the slot.

I've built a bunch of slotted head guitars and never used bushings on the tuners.

I do not use bushings, but if I was it seems like I would want two for each tuner, one on each side.

We don't need no stinking bushings....

The Gotoh slot head tuners from LMI that I have used on a few guitars came with press fit bushings. I think they are more trouble than they are worth.

Some slot head tuners do use bushings, but that set isn't one of them. As I mentioned those tuners can be used for either style of peghead and the bushings are supplied for the "paddle head " style.
