I promised my friend Colin that I would post pics of a guitar that Dave Collins made entirely out of ****** old fret wire that we didn't want to ever use on a real guitar. We bought Dave a new soldering iron that does it all and he liked it so much that he made this L-OO out of solder and fret wire as a result.

It's located at the top of the entry stairs to our shop and is the first thing along with Jimi that our clients see. Our Martin certification shares the wall.

Just out of curiosity, how much does that weigh?

I assume he fretted the neck after it was mounted to the body. . .

That is really cool!

I wonder if that is now considered as a fake Gibson by the new "rules" they told us...

Yeah but how does it sound?

Very, very cool and I'd like to see it in a nice black shadowbox with black lining like a guitar case, maybe a paisley patterned black or dark blue velvet? Add a couple flush mounted led lights, a glass front and it would fetch a thousand bucks all day long, maybe more?

When can we expect a Strat, Tele or Less (intentional LOL) Paul?

:) Not quite as good as the actual 1937 L-OO that he traced for the body shape likely. :)

I like that and may borrow it "Less" paul LOL! I think your artist eye is in fine form my friend that sounds very cool. In this town with the fake art fair next week that draws over a million folks with money burning a hole in their pockets that would be a big hit.

Thank goodness he's busy with a successful repair business. I can't imagine what he would do if he had idle time.

Exactly! and just what do you get the guitarist who already has everything? Something to dress up his guitar room. Cost would be no object.

Dave would likely have his very own thermonuclear research program or be curing cancer. Brilliant guy and a true renaissance man with many varied interests. I'm sure glad he's on our side... :)

That is really cool though. We have a 'wire guitar' that came from Etsy if I'm not mistaken, hanging up in our living room. But it's not fret wire! I've been wanting to get one to hang outside my shop door.

I'm betting it has a very 'open and airy' sound and is even more 'transparent' than maple

They usually recommend using quartered stock for back and sides; I see in this case it was nickel. . .
