I have a couple guitars with some red spruce tops that have suffered some top damage from previous repairs. I'd like to patch them with red spruce to keep the owner happy (he's particular).

Anyone have any I can purchase? I need maybe 5-6 pieces around maybe 5 x 6" and either top thickness or brace size. Doesn't have to be anything inparticular just red spruce that I can cut some grafts/cleats from.

I don't understand your size requirement as you have written it.-Bob

I was a bit confused myself so I didn't say anything :D

Those are some pretty big pieces. I guess maybe you want them big so as to match grain? Good idea. But still. It might be hard to get them from us luthiers since we hoard them for this very reason. So perhaps if you specify your sizes a bit better. You may even be able to contact some suppliers who have orphaned pieces or even pieces specifically for patch work.

Reading it over I can see why it's confusing! My apologies.

I would like to match the grain. So basically pieces that are 3 to 4 inches wide and 3 to 4 inches long would be fine.

And yes you're right about it being hard to get them. I just hate taking whole tops and cutting them up since they're better suited to being used for building guitars. I'll see about getting in touch with a supplier like you suggested.

I have a mountain of this material. PM me with your particular need with regard to grain width and overall appearance.
