Anybody else spraying shellac as a complete finish?
I'm really liking it.
I know it's not as durable,
but hey, it's a guitar.
Usually people are careful with them.

Do you have to wet sand and polish it out?

Oh no I was referring to the OP. Shellac doesn't buff out well from my experience, the heat of buffing messes it up. It does take to hand polishing ok. But with FP I just glaze and am done with it, so I am just wondering how a spray finish in shellac can be leveled and polished out.

Royal Lac sands and buffs out nicely IMO..

shellac polishes fine you have to know what buffing pads and compounds to use
I use Manzerna for that and soft flannel buffing wheel

Hi all!
Maybe I'll try the Royal Lac on my next one.
Anyway, I hand polish (no buffer),
cure for a month, 400-600-white auto rubbing compound, then plastic polish.
Not after super shiny.
I like the polished yet not too shiny finish.
Thanks, Alan

Friend of mine sprays his classicals with post-cat Royal Lac with good results. He was disappointed with the veiled look after sanding to the finest MicroMesh grits and hand buffing, but brings his guitars to me for buffing until he gets his own buffer.

I've been buffing traditional shellac and Royal Lac for about five years with no burning. Seems the 1/3 HP motor I have keeps me from burning the finish.

Hi! Anyway, wanted to let you know that I now don't recommend doing this.
After months, the finish is there and looks good, but didn't seem to fully harden.
Set the guitar down, and chances of it distorting.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know.
Don't want to give any bad advice.
If I use shellac again, it will be French polish.
Thin layers are the key, I believe.
