I’ve mentioned before here on the OLF that I am happy with the Indian Rosewood from Exotic Wood Zone on eBay. I’ve bought several sets, and all are very high quality, meaning: quarter sawn, straight grain, plenty of extra width, plenty of extra thickness. Really nice wood to work with. The thing about this seller is that their prices fluctuate a lot. I see the same quality sets for sale one week at around $140, and a different week for around $100, and other weeks at prices in between. Shipping is included in those prices. The point of this post is that, right now, their highest quality Indian Rosewood dreadnought sets are priced at $100, shipping included. That’s a great price. The prices will keep see-sawing up and down, so if you need Rosewood now, you might want to buy now. If you need it later, perhaps watch this seller and see when the prices go down again. I have not been as enamored with their other woods, or the prices on their other woods. I think Rosewood is their wheelhouse. No affiliation. Just happy to get high quality wood at an occasionally great price, and willing to pass along the tip. |

I've bought a couple of very good classical sized EIR sets at good prices from Jokky at exotic wood zone. Another satisfied customer here. |

The dread sizes are down to $80 shipped. With an order of 2 or more, you get another discount. I just bought 2, and with the taxes and discount all considered, I paid $154.01. That’s $77.005 per set, shipped. |

And just to confirm the quality of the wood, I can report that the set I bought at $100 shipped (last week's price) arrived today, and it looks just as great as the 5 or 6 other sets I have bought from them over the past year. |

That's good to know. I find size and vertical grain (vs quarter sawn) not to be difficult factors. Rather, for east indian rosewood my experience is the most difficult quality issue is color, second is grain. Most EIR these days has a fair bit of grey in it, and the coloring is kind of washed out. That's a no go for me. I have 4 or 5 EIR sets in inventory that are like the older grades of EIR one used to be able to purchase. Much harder to find these days. I'll post a comparative photo when I have a moment to take a picture. |

Understood, Andy. Right now, I'm less concerned with the color, and more interested in finding wood that will behave well as I try to turn it into a guitar. This seller provides photos per set, so you can screen for color. The grain is very straight, which I prefer. Squirrely grain is more fun to look at than it is to work with. |
