This is a first. The bearing fell off while flush trimming the back after glue up. I caught it pretty quickly and the damage is not too bad. I think the binding will cover if I use the typical bwb purf that I like to use.

I guess just a PSA, check them bearings every once in a while?

and also set the bit depth only as deep as necessary to get the job done. The bit is cheap ($20) compared to the cost of the wood and the time invested.

Because of the number of posts I've seen where this has happened, I'm obsessive about checking it's tight before routing.
And it's great to get another reminder.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I have had things loosen on me while the router is on, and I never want that to happen again. I am now fairly obsessive about whether the bit is tight in the collet, whether the bearing is tight on the bit, and whether the height adjustment is locked (or plunging is dialed in right). I'm glad this one didn't turn into a real problem, Brad!

You might want to use loctite or another adhesive to lock down that router bearing. Its happened to me.

This is why my Ultimate Binding Jig uses a guide that is mechanically attached. Seen this too many times.

(I use the tool for flushing plates)
