I'm making a 7-string guitar. I'm finding the choices for my seventh tuner to be very limited. So far I've found only Gotoh M6 style tuners available individually (from Stewmac and LMII). Is that it? Does anyone know other sources for single tuners (or sets of 7, if such a thing might exist)?

Rubner sells single tuners.

I have a broken set of gold grover imperials that I used for a seven string set....

I would be glad to give you one.

Thanks for the offer but there is nothing else gold on the guitar and it looks like the rest of the set would be fairly pricey.

I'll check out Rubners. Thanks!

There are 7 string sets of Sperzel trimlok tuners on ebay. They say they are "inline" tuners, but there is a good chance they can be reversed for 3 X 4 if that is what you want (I have reversed the non locking Sperzel tuners and these look similar)

Thanks for this. I’ve never used locking tuners. I’ll have to learn something about them. The price looks pretty right.

Most of the 7 & 8 strings I build have hipshot tuners. They sell sets in those configs with choices for post heights. Schaller also sells tuners individually through their webstore. Those are my main two but I have had a set of Gotoh drop shipped from the factory as a set to me by a client so I know that is an option somehow. Contact the makers direct.... I see so much fake Chinese crap from E-bay these days I usually advise clients to avoid purchasing parts there.

As opposed to the "real" tuners made in China? Chinese "aftermarket" stuff can be a bit substandard, but they are catching up.

There has to be someone out there that sells tuners in bulk and can give you one out of the box. I think I remember getting 6 loose Grovers from John Hall a few years ago. Ask him.

Hi Brian,
It was my understanding that there no longer were U.S.A. made tuners (production had moved to China). Am I wrong about that?

Hi Aaron,
I should have read your post more closely. It's good to know some things are still made in the U.S. of A.

Uh ... I was just looking at the Grip-Lock closed tuners and right there on the page (at the bottom of the bulleted list in the Description) it says "Made in Korea".

Good catch. Seems the open gear is the only mini tuner without the MIK statement. I use that one anyway. I do use the sealed Schaller style, and will continue.

Certainly get my Bass gear from them, both tuning machines and bridges. Bottom line for me, they're good people to work with, my opinion.

Sounds like very good reasons to use their tuners.

Must admit this is the first I saw the MIK Hipshot thing ..... Last box had USA all over it? Gonna look close at the next set as I have an 8 scheduled to build in the spring.

I use Schaller myself if the client has no preference....
