I recently took a class with Obrien Guitars. A one on one build for an OM cutaway with his simplified French polish finish. I can't say enough good things about my experience. Robbie was very knowledgable and I learned some good tips/tricks for my future builds, his modified french polish was very simple at least in person. I imagine it will take me a few guitars of doing it on my own to master it but it certainly took most of the complexity out of a French polish finish. P.s I couldn't wait for the opportunity to say just a skosh lol |

Robbie is a good guy, one of the few recognizable names in this business that won't talk down to you or ignore you. His classes are great. |

Wow, that looks nice. I'm impressed that you are able to complete a whole guitar in that short amount of time. |

Bryon: 6 days from start to a French polished guitar. One of the main reasons for taking the class was to see about expediting some of the processes which were just taking too long. |

Wow, that's awesome! You can rest and jam on the seventh day. Which areas did you learn how to expedite the most? Was it because he had a lot of jigs? Pat |

Pat amazingly enough Robbie's approach is mostly handwork. One of the main jigs is his neck jig. Which I purchased immediately from LMI Makes cutting the correct angle on a mortise and tenon style neck effortless and the final flossing took about 1 minute and wala you're ready to set the neck. Also the quickie French polish makes French polishing really easy and quick. Another aspect I enjoyed was seeing his process. and how he does the order of things. Each luthier is different and I've studied under quite a few so its a big learning process for me to see how others practice their craft. I find that Im constantly reinventing the wheel and I always crack up when I see another Luthier due it in a much simpler and easier technique. |

Thanks for the compliment David. What a fun time building that guitar and it sounded great when the strings went on. |
