Post subject:  My Beginning Luthier Training - Progress

Hi. I'm new to the forum and to the world of the Luthier craft. Living in Southern Oregon, I was recently fortunate to meet a luthier who happens to be local, and who is kind enough and willing to teach me the craft. We are in the beginnings of building an acoustic guitar. In the last few weeks since beginning, I have immersed my self in reading and watching every video on Youtube available on building, tone-woods, inlay, tools use, etc. It is a wonderful adventure that I never expected to come upon. Since being a young man, I have always dearly loved guitars and musical instruments in general. Going into a good instrument shop is the ultimate eye-candy experience for me. I have been spoiled by luckily owning a Goodall Guitar which James and his son built for me several years ago. So, I have a lot to live up to if I'm going to pursue this craft over time. I'm happy to be here on the forum and should anyone be interested, I'd be happy to post my progress on the build.

Thanks for reading!

Michael—

First, welcome!

Second, yes, I think we all like to see photos and read about progress, at whatever skill or experience level. Please post!

Third, I know that the internet can be a scary place, and protecting your identity/privacy is an important goal, but consider the benefits of putting in your profile where you live. Some folks here on the OLF really benefit from having in person interaction with each other. Even in my “nowhere” location, I have opportunities to meet up with a few other builders. I would not have been able to do that if I, and they, kept quiet about where we live. Just a suggestion. I know it was in your initial post, but that will be forgotten if it is not in your profile.

Let us know when you are planning #2 and #3! LOL

I know you did not ask for advice, but... Although it's tempting to try and build your dream guitar on the first one, wait until at least the second. Just get through the first one as an exercise.
