I dehumidify my shop (my whole house, actually) with an Aprilaire 1850F. It stopped working; the onboard computer said that it had a "capacity" problem. This morning, I put it on the bench, opened it up, and cleaned it thoroughly. Some crud (mineral deposits) had built up on the inside. Some time with a wire brush, a shop vac, and some stout wire fed through the condensed water pathway, got it back to being mostly clean again. I put it back together, and it is back to working like it always did before. Right as rain, so to speak.

With the arrival of Spring, we are back to needing dehumidification on a regular basis here in the Mountain State. That means at least half the country will need it, too. For those of you who treat dehumidifiers as disposable, you might want to consider "only crying once" and buying something a bit sturdier, like my much-appreciated 1850F.

I thought about that but in my small shop my Frigidaire 70 pt unit works well. I just had to replace mine, it lasted 7 years so I'm satisfied. I take the plastic covers off once a year and clean it all out, seems to help it last. Who knows, maybe I just got lucky but I just replaced it with a newer version of the same model.
