Hi guys,

First, let me introduce myself properly. I have been reading you for a while, but I never posted anything.
I must admit that I learn a lot from you all. This forum is an  amazing source of information.

This is my first real acoustic guitar, I have made about a dozen CBG an electric guitar and a baritone ukulele for a friend. It turned out pretty nice so I thought I was ready for the real thing.
So this is the final result. Walnut back and sides, Bearclaw Engelmann spruce top and figured maple neck.
The finish is french polish. It took me a month only to complete that part.

It sounds like nothing else I never heard and it plays like a charm. I am pretty happy with the result.
Unfortunately The CA glue used for the rosette stained the top a little bit and there is also some dark stain from the sawdust of the rosette. I try to send it out, but the deeper I sand the deeper the stain was going. Lessons learned, always seal the top before using CA glue.

Anyway, there is the final product. Any comment welcome, good or bad. I am here to learn.

Thanks

Luc

Sweet! Live and learn for sealing the rosette channel, and nice job.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I've seen much worse CA staining, in fact that's even hard to see. In time it might just go all the way. I ruined a master grade red spruce top doing that. Yeah a $250 dollar lesson!

It’s a beauty. I like how the rosette ring is split with the shell inlay. I tried to do something similar on a ukulele recently and ended up with just a giant rosette. :D

Any sound clips?

Brad

Nice looking guitar.
The bindings work well with the wood in the rosette. The curly maple neck with a dark wood body is somewhat unusual but again the bindings help pull it together. Very nice first, and more to come?

I like the maple neck on the walnut body - good job for any guitar, let alone a first
