I used harbor freight claMPs to clamp a fingerboard down and €*~€~£{> stained it. Is there anything I can do to get this out? They BOTH did it! What the heck

Was there oil on them? Maybe if you oil the rest of the board it will darken to match.

There’s nothing I can feel or see or anything. Has me stumped
I just tried to clamp a test w another few that are the same. SAME thing
It’s something. In the caul or something
What would I try on the fretboard ? Maybe TO?

That sucks. I don't know the answer for how to remove the stains, but have you tried alcohol or naptha? If those don't work, maybe dish soap. If those don't work, then maybe Dennis' suggestion to oil the board might take care of it.

I stopped using clamps that have rubber (or whatever it is) pads on the wood that has to stay clean because the pads on the clamps I have that are like yours exude something under pressure that leaves a stain. My clamps are about 8 years old and they still do that.

Isn't tru-oil more of a varnish? Since you're able to reproduce the stains, you might as well give it a try. If you have pure walnut oil, that should be good. I use a product called F-One fretboard oil from Music Nomad and would recommend it.

I’ve seen that on Padauk.
It went away in a few days.
Maybe there are oils in the wood that show when compressed?

I hope it goes away. You should be able to hide it.

Nice inlay!

I’ll keep an eye on it... maybe it will dry out. I’m going to hold off on adding anything to it.

It's a plasticizer used in "rubbery" plastics or maybe a mold release. It could contain silicone. HF clamps have it the worst, though others do too, but not as bad. It doesn't dry. If acetone didn't touch it, I don't know what will. It can wreak havoc with some finishes. DAMHIKT.

Good to know. Thanks for the information
