I need to extract a screw that goes through the heel of a guitar and all the way into the neck block. The screw is 11/64" and is broken off about 1" into the heel. I need to core out through the heel, through the dove tail, and through the neck, and remove the rest of the screw, so that I can remove the neck. Stewmac sell the core tool extractor and a matching plug cutter, but the max size is 3/32".

Almost all of the reviews on this one indicated that it breaks very easily. That would be a disaster if it broke of in the neck of the guitar. So, I need one a little longer and of better quality. I need 2 1/4" to drill with, after chucking it up.

I'd get a piece of quality tubing, cut off a piece as long as you need and cut some teeth in the end with a dremmel and a mini abrasive cutoff disc.

You can get the cutoff discs and arbors at most hardware or big box stores.

A core drill like that needs to be cleared of chips frequently so it won't bind and heat up, blowing out the hole every few seconds.

Second the tubing idea. I use the concept for extracting broken tuner screws and it works great. Use solid tubing that fits inside the hollow stuff to stabilize it in the drill chuck

Get tubing that just barely fits over the screw, cut teeth in it and run it in reverse. It should grab the screw and back it out. That's what happens with tuner screws and should be the same for a bigger one.

What I meant is, I found another way to get the neck out. I removed the fret board and used a metal cutting jig saw blade to go into the space between the dovetail and the neck block. It took a while, but I was able to cut through the screw and then the neck came out fine. The 2 ends of the screw are still in there, but they won't be a problem.
