Marcus, thanks. Nice and thoughtful piece about string spacing at the nut. What has my attention is string spacing at the bridge. If the limitations imposed by a dozen pins are removed, what's possible at that end?

Hi Peter,
At the saddle I prefer to have slightly wider spacing between the strings of each pair - generally about 1/8th inch (sometimes slightly wider), because I like to be able to play them individually, as well as together. Spacing them 1/8th inch apart is only adding 1/32nd inch more than the 1/10th inch Freeman says he uses. It is a balancing act - too close and you can't finger pick individual strings, too far apart it becomes hard to finger pick pairs of strings. If the players only strums of plays with a flat pick spacings may not be as critical.
