I'm using this wood for the first time and I'm fishing for comments/advice about bending the sides in a Fox bender. Thanks very much. |

I find it to be an easy bend. I use SS slats, 6” painters paper, and Windex w/ammonia ala Mr, Hall. I thinkness to .085” or until it feels right. My hi temp is 320°, start the waist bend at 280°, then hold @ 260°, then down to room temp, twice. Good luck, M |

LaurieW wrote: Windex? I have to look that one up in the archives If I’m remembering correctly John Hall was the first to suggest using windex w/ammonia. I knew about Ammonia for bending but never put the two together. Another side benefit is that the windex evaporates much faster than water. Works like a champ! M |

I've used it on several recent bends instead of supersoft. Worked great. Lightly sprayed the sides and dipped the packing paper strips in it too (squeegeed off). Make sure to use the Windex Original with ammonia in it. |

If you have had luck bending sapele, then bend black limba the same way. If Not this works for me. 1. Spray wood well with water. 2. sandwich it from the bottom or as you prefer with: Slat, Blanket, tin foil, wet paper, wood, wet paper, tin foil, slat. 3. Heat up until it sizzles and a little stream shows, modulate the heat to keep it around 300. 4. Slowly bent the waist in. 5. Unplug the blanket and spray water into the waist to cool. 6. Since I put the blanket under the wood on the bender, with the waist bent, the upper and lower bout wood will be above the blanket. I use spring clamps and raise the upper bout sandwich up against the wood. Turn the heat back on and bend as before. Once bent, turn heat off, Cool the waist again, and repeat for the lower bout. |
