Show off time. These two in the 1930's Martin tradition. Only thing different is that I use a bolt on neck and shellac finish. But the body shape and size, bracing pattern and so on are all pre-war Martin. Lovely guitars. The torrefied spruce adds some years to the look of the classic O.M. shape. |

Nice guitars, I've got one on the bench with a torrefied red spruce top, looking forward to hearing how it sounds. |

I learned over on Classical Guitar Delacamp that the back on 66 is called watermelon Stripe. Have any of you heard of that? Supposedly it's from being sinker but I don't know. A few others have said that they got some BRW from a beam that had that look to it. Torrified wood is interesting. I still don't know what to think of it. These are only the 3rd and 4th guitars I have used T-wood on. The one thing I noticed right off the bat was that from the very first set of strings there was very little change even within the first week. Typically I notice a change in tone on a guitar within hours of it's first set of strings. So it's almost like it's set from the beginning or at least real close. They definitely matured over the course of a month strung up. I always keep them that long just to make any changes necessary just in case. It's also totally opaque. You cannot see the bracing ghosting through the top with a strong light source on the inside. And thanks for the kind words. I always feel bashful doing these threads but then I do enjoy seeing others too so it's all part of sharing. Regards. |
