Well, I've seen more than one guitar with a little inlay there so I suspect you're not the first one. Lots of opportunity there :)

Design in. I like end grafts that wrap onto the back and/or soundboard.

Put a wider back purfling on it.

Wish I could say I've never done that...

The little inlay that Martin did on their style 3 ukes might be cool:

Yes. I cut one point off and shaped the edge to match the curve.

I vote design feature, I’ll try to find one I did as an example. On a side note, what’s the dark back and side wood? I am a fan of it!

Here's a quick photo edit of what I'd do (not necessarily the color of wood, I just copy-pasted the exposed mahogany because it was there). Have it cut through the binding, like it's meant to be there.

Looks like bog oak to me. I like it too.

That's an elegant solution!

Bog oak? Never heard of that one,I’ll check it out.

I can’t take credit for my cover up, was someone else’s idea but tied it in to the fretboard and bridge inlays. I’m very happy with it.

Of course nothing like that ever happens to me because I don't have to rush...Well sounds good anyhow this Cajun Allligator got mad too when his tail got caught under the binding on this Cypress and Maple "Martin 0" model.

This was all intentional, but you'll get the idea...

Can be done with the box closed.

Agree with all the encouragement. Done the exact same thing before (except mine was on the neck end (bearing dipped into my neck mortise) so I ended up mirroring the heel cap in the back as an inlay. Same shape, same material. Customer complemented on how they liked it.... I neglected to explain why I spent the time to put it there.

Add me as another to the crew. I added an inlay to cover it up. These sorts of "mistakes" can often turn into design opportunities.
