Just curious if anyone has tried or seen anyone putting a tiny bit of binding or edge purfling on a bridge? Nothing too crazy just thinking of something like a .40 wide b/w thing to highlight the edge of something like a 1x6. Nothing at the wings but around the taller portion of the bridge to add a little color variety. Any negatives/positives to doing this? |

I've seen quite a few older guitars with various types of inlay in the bridge--here's one that I don't know if you'd call it purfling or not, but it's close: Looks pretty good to me. Dave |

Often done in the classical world, though not considered binding as such. Bone keeps the strings from wearing the wood where they wrap around the tieblock. Attachment: DSC07016.jpg Attachment: DSC07407.jpg

There is bone at the tie block on a classical bridge to keep strings from wearing through the soft wood. But on a steel string, Martin style bridge I just don't see a way to make this look good. Usually bindings look better when the shape of the object has more sharp corners. |

I never said I wanted to do this on a Martin style bridge. All my bridges are 1x6s and that's all I use. |
