Just curious if anyone has tried or seen anyone putting a tiny bit of binding or edge purfling on a bridge?

Nothing too crazy just thinking of something like a .40 wide b/w thing to highlight the edge of something like a 1x6. Nothing at the wings but around the taller portion of the bridge to add a little color variety.

Any negatives/positives to doing this?

I've seen quite a few older guitars with various types of inlay in the bridge--here's one that I don't know if you'd call it purfling or not, but it's close:

Looks pretty good to me.

Often done in the classical world, though not considered binding as such. Bone keeps the strings from wearing the wood where they wrap around the tieblock.

Thanks for the ideas. That early one is gorgeous

There is bone at the tie block on a classical bridge to keep strings from wearing through the soft wood. But on a steel string, Martin style bridge I just don't see a way to make this look good. Usually bindings look better when the shape of the object has more sharp corners.

I never said I wanted to do this on a Martin style bridge. All my bridges are 1x6s and that's all I use.
