Hello all, I've noticed there hasn't been an OLF challenge in quite a few years now and was wondering if there might be any in the works. I've always enjoyed watching what people come up with given a set budget/limited materials |

I love watching these! We really should have done one this time last year while everyone was all hopes up at home for months on end. You should hear one up. Usually someone takes the lead on deciding what the challenge will be all about and makes sure it will attract enough participants. Often there is some sort of theme of goal. I’m not sure if I’d be able to participate but if not, I’d still like to follow along! |

Yeah those are fun to participate in and watch. I don't have time anymore to participate but it would be fun to watch another one. |

I spent a while looking at the last one. Tiny metal ukes, resonators , classicals. A lot of different ideas. A rim sound hole? The time frame wasn't bad. I haven't done anything, so just about any project would have element new to me. I like posting builds because it helps me stay on track. I like planning and starting. Finishing is better making guitars because I can play them, sort of. |

Some days all my builds seem challenging! I have done a couple on the MIMF, but finding the right challenge can be challenging - it has to be something a number of people want to do, and something that can be done in the odd hours of "free" time people are willing to spend on it. I enjoy seeing others creativity, but I enjoy seeing that in non challenge situations just as much. |

I did do one challenge on violin making quite a while ago. I had only made two or three. Everyone was supposed to make a copy of an Ole Bull del Gesu violin. They offered free plans. I made an off the wall baroque style out of sycamore. I sounds pretty good, and looks a lot better now since I redid it! That was for a celebration of 200 years or something. I think it was in Finland. I found out how much it would be to ship it there and was SHOCKED. It ended up that the whole thing was interrupted by the Iceland volcano. But an idea of your take on a certain model, like one of the first steel string Martins or something would be similar. I was looking at a price list, and the bare bones model might have been $25 then the next up was $50 and up to about $125 or so. That's a whole lot of bling. Lost of variations on a common theme. I have plans for Voboam baroque guitars, and the amount of detail that they add to those little guys is CRAZY. Just a suggestion. Nothing with shipping costs. |
