Oops, says I. After I resolved my error in the neck angle I was left with a ski jump in the fretboard (13th fret south). No problem taking out the ski jump, and now I'm refretting that area. Slots have been used once, and I've read mention of using glue to narrow and toughen the slots. Titebond? medium CA? All at once, or glue-fret-glue one at a time till done? Left to my own devices, I think I'd mask off a slot, run some medium CA into the slot, remove the mask and press in the fret. Repeat for each fret. Shot of accelerator on each slot after pressing in a fret. I'd very much welcome some comments and guidance. Thanks! |

Using CA under a fret being seated can result in it squirting where you don't want it. I like Titebond, one fret at a time. Immediately, clean up squeeze-out with a slightly damp cloth. |

Yeah - Titebond or hide glue. Easily reversible down the road. |

Especially if this is the first refret, I've usually find that it's the only been the area of the tangs where widening of the slot occurs. By moving the new fret tangs over a little bit to a fresh area of the slot gives better grip than placing the new tangs in the same position as the old ones were. I like to use fish glue to lubricate the frets in, using a syringe and slightly flattened needle to get it down in the slot. |

Thanks, folks. Last night I used Titebond in the slots - - - one at a time. Learn something new every day! Today I'll see if any fret ends loosen up when I so tenderly file the fret ends. |

Titebond seems to have helped. The frets survived leveling, crowning, end trimming and final sanding. The new ones look better than the remaining original frets. |

We seat the fret run a bead of thin CA watching it wick right in and then clamp with the Jaws II tool with the appropriate caul and then hit the joint with accelerator. I do a quick wipe of any excess being careful to not drip or smear it and then use the accelerator. For frets that are already down, tested so I know they are down I nix the clamp. Works great. |
