Discovered their website and inventory. Good prices. Ordered three Indian Ebony fretboard blanks and they look great.

Anyone here worked with Indian Ebony? I have heard it can be little hard on saws and edged tools.

Thanks

I looked around briefly. Nice to see usable wood offered at comfortable pricing. I think us build-for-themselves luthiers (?) can have a fine time and turn up some gorgeous instruments without breaking the bank. Movie money.

Just buy your soundboards somewhere else...

I didn't see anything I couldn't get from SM for the same price and their prices are high. The spruce tops are ridiculous unless you just have to have Alpine spruce.

It bugs me that all of the photos of the back and sides sets show only one side piece. If I'm going to buy a set, I want to see all of it so I know exactly what I'm getting.

When they were selling through the luthiers club on Facebook I was getting great deals. $10 a piece for ebony fret boards and I got some really nice EIR too. The rosewood was of very good quality imho as were the fretboards. But yeah I noticed once they got a website up it's pretty much all market price now. They send emails with specials once in a while though. Over all though they were fast, good to work with and good quality.

My question was how are the working properties of Indian Ebony vs. African.

Can anyone help me on this one? Mr. McKenna?

Oh sorry I missed the point. Well interestingly I found some things different. I bought several from them, I think 30 at the time. There were a few that actually had curly figure in them. They looked really cool but as you can guess were harder to work. But if you have a drum sander then no worries. Incidentally once they were on the guitar and finished with wax they looked just all black and you could not see the figure. I would tend to agree that working with the Indian Ebony was a bit more moody.
