Post subject: | A question on tobacco burst |
Looking at pics online of acoustic guitars with tobacco burst finish. When the burst effect is done on the sides, it seems like the neck block, tail block, and waist areas seem to get the dark colour, graduating out to natural wood on the upper and lower bouts. Has anybody done it in reverse so the darkest parts are at the center of the upper and lower bouts, graduating to natural wood in the waist, neck, and tail areas? If so, can you share pics, please. |

I personally like to think there are no rules, and try to avoid tradition when possible. Here is an example of a reverse burst on a Dion No.04. I really like the effect! |

Thanks for the pics. What I was hoping to see was where a burst effect had been done on the sides but with the darkened area at the apex of the upper and lower bouts and the lighter area at the waist, neck, and tail areas. |

Understood, I guess my point was, try it, be different - Best, Michael |

Perhaps someone could photoshop the effect. That might save some trouble if you don't like it. |

if the body is assembled before finish that is how you have to do it I kind of like it and it is accepted Martin and most other acoustics do the top and rarely burst the back. You also notice that the process has the purfling and rosettes masked off in the process |

What is how you have to do it? |
