Did you do the hand cut one for any particular reason? Grain, different model, just to keep your skills up?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

You know I can't even remember why I did that-it was meant for another guitar and it didn't work out for it so I am using it on a new one.

The truss rods I am using (Martin 2-way) have a wider end where the wrench goes in, so they all have to get widened like that one.
