There’s nothing that I know of that is wrong with it. The blade is relatively new. It was sitting unused in my garage for many years and the table is rusted to heck, but I seem to recall it was doing this when I renovated it out of action. It starts fine, but when I try to cut with it, the blade bogs down and sometimes even to s stop.

Any ideas?

How hard is it to replace a bandsaw motor? KMS tools had a 2hp for 80$…

You might check your line voltage. When I lived in an old neighborhood, it would vary 15%. I don't know how that would affect a BS, but it wreaked havoc on my work in the darkroom.

I would start by looking at the motor. May be the bearings are starting to seize. If so, the motor may be struggling to turn and the extra resistance of cutting is too much for it. Replacing a motor isn’t a big deal as long as you’re mechanically inclined. Replacing motor bearings is also fairly easy if they aren’t stuck to the shaft or housing.

All of the above plus check the bearings on the wheels. Almost every city has a bearing shop where you take the old bearing, they measure it, and give you a new one that turns.

I let the smoke out of a motor on a bandsaw I had long ago. Replacing the motor was simply moving the drive pulley to the new motor, bolting it in, and wiring it up. The motor mounts for this type of motor are pretty standard such that a motor fits many different machines. If you put too big of a motor on a bandsaw frame designed for less, the bigger motor may have the ability to distort the frame when the cut gets hard.

Along Pat’s line of reasoning above, make sure you’re not using an inadequate extension cord.

After running it, feel the temp of the motor. Should be nothing more than warm.

If the saw has an induction motor I would check the run capacitor. Mine had the same problem as yours and a replacement capacitor cured it, likewise with my bench grinder and disk sander.
If you can`t check it with a meter I suggest that you replace it anyway, they`re cheap from Amazon.

Bearings getting hot and sticking, or capacitors.

Derail the drive belt at one end. Turn the motor by hand. Tension the blade and turn the bandsaw by hand. Don't get distracted and cut yourself. After these tests you might know if the problem is the motor or the saw.
With the blade off, check all the saw bearings for slop or roughness.
Is the blade path through the guides a nice straight line?

When mine started doing that it was the drive belt tension that was to blame. It was slack and slipping when the blade came under resistance. Tightening it up immediately improved things.
