Just purchased a set of BRW, not large, not the best, not the biggest, but never thought I'd be able to afford one. Any suggestions for a guitar model to build with it? Sides max width is about 4", I could add about 3/8" to that with extended linings https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393987878429?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=2e846b718d4a4c3d85adde16b8f296bb&bu=43346464771&ut=RU&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20220316031938&segname=11021&sojTags=ch%3Dch%2Cbu%3Dbu%2Cut%3Dut%2Cosub%3Dosub%2Ccrd%3Dcrd%2Csegname%3Dsegname%2Cchnl%3Dmkcid |

Congrats. I saw that set this morning. I thought they were Classical / OM dimensions. Look forward to seeing whatever you end up making out of it. |

Yes, pretty obviously intended as a classical set, But fits the Kinkead OM plans. |

The OO-12 fret is a nice size and shape and close to that of a classical guitar and may give you a little more "wiggle room" with the set. I have used extended linings, as you mentioned, and added small "wings" to the lower bout or wide purfles to "grow" some sets beyond their intended use. I still have a few pieces of BRW I should resaw or get resawn before I am too decrepit or senile to build anything with it, but really feel I get just as good results by laminating matched veneers as using solid materials. Enjoy the wonderful bouquet Brazilian emits when being worked - even 60 year old veneers still exude that lovely aroma when sanded. The smell is my favorite thing about working with that wood. |

That's nice Colin. I'm a fan of OM's myself but I would say build what you want that fits the set. I've had one set of BRW I got about 12 years ago but it's not big enough for an OM, I'll probably do a size 0 with mine. |

I could be wrong, but I think the D35 came about to use up sets originally intended for smaller Martin guitars after the dreadnought became so popular. Adding that center piece can really stretch the set. |

I've been thinking to build 31 OM style, got the tracings for a template for one. Might be a good fit with a terrified top. |

Very nice set, Colin. A triple or double 0 would be nice... Recently I have stumbled on some really nice brazilian sets in that price range, just a matter of being patient. |

Looks like a great set of wood to build with! The 4" dimension is at the narrow end of the sides set. 4" of wood at the neck is plenty deep for and OM, and whatever at the end. You'll be trimming off wood before you are done. You own it, no rush to make sawdust, I saved my only 2 sets of BRW 30 years before I built with it. |

When I built my first in 1992-ish I knew I was hooked. Back then BRW would have been a hell of an investment at $250/set or so but $250 was a lot back then too. The common thinking back then was to learn how to build guitars first before using valuable material... I built my first BRW guitar 30 years later. |
