Post subject:  HOSCO NUT FILES

Just made a second nut for a project I otherwise called 'finished'. I used the set of three doublesided nut files I bought before I made anything. Gonna' say 'uncle' and I'm considering buying a set of ten Hosco nut files that Japanese vendors offer at varying prices. These worth buying?Any counterfeiting going on? Any US sources (Philadelphia Lutherie's backordered) for these or something preferable?

Thanks!

I've found Hosco branded stuff works pretty well. I usually purchase from Philadelphia Luthiery Supply, too. They are dependable shippers. I'd avoid any of the Chinese sellers right now - you just don't know when you might get it.

I have had a Hosco set from the start (well, after a set of Norman's nut files for 1 guitar), never had to look for another set.
Probably only done 40 new and 60 touch up nut jobs, still no sign of serious wear. I've just added a .020" file from SM.
I use a brass wire brush on them as required to clear the teeth.

I have a few, nothing special, equal in quality to StewMac and possibly who has made StewMac's in the past but I don't know this. They look identical.

We like the ones that have two sides, both the same not two sides with two different thicknesses.

I use the gauged set the double sided nut files with 2 different sizes never gave me the same results the gauged ones do.

the hosco files I got were not flat and true but did a decent job these are the ones I have been using lately
