Three years ago a friend from work asked me to build him a guitar. My knee jerk reaction was to say no, but as I mulled it over in my head, you know… Why not? I told him I’d like to have a year. :) At the time my little girl was only three months old, we hadn’t bought a house, and our second little one wasn’t even on the horizon. What a joy it was to finally present it to him yesterday morning. And oh what a gift it is to be able to practice this craft.

This is a model of my own design, essentially an OM in size. Mad rose back/sides, with an adirondack top.

Very nice. Mad Rose and red spruce should be a great combo.

Beautiful. I honestly think gifting, if you can afford it, is the most rewarding way to build guitars.

James,

Simply Elegant!

Nice Clean lines and great looking wood. If it sounds like it looks, your friend should be very happy.

Great looking guitar!

I think you are a better person than I... I wouldn't have used that wood on a give-away [clap]

Cheers,
Bob

I guess I misread that line, I saw "gift" and assumed you were giving it to him. (So I am as good of person as you!!! laughing6-hehe )

I share your feeling.

Cheers,
Bob

This is Royal Lac Post Cat.

Sometimes the gift is in the price, or an unbalanced barter. I have a nephew who works for TKL. I'm going to build him a guitar in exchange for a really nice Cedar Creek case. He's getting the better end of that deal, for sure, but it's for family, and I know he will play it instead of putting it in a closet, so it's cool.

Beautiful guitar!
I really like the shape of the cutaway.

I notice that the there is a significant amount of saddle above the bridge-This is not a criticism, I tend to like more than less, but I tend to round off the ends which visually makes it look smaller.

Sickeningly, I’ll be re-topping this. :(

I was cutting the binding off last night to touch up a few things, sneaking up on it pass by pass. I had a complete brain fart and set the cut for the final pass on the wrong side of the zero bar on my Elevate jig. I was in love with this top, but it’s just one of those things. Nothing to do but regroup and move on.

Thankfully it was a mis-post! I forgot to attach an image. I can’t even imagine if the former were the case.
