I recently posted a photo of my 9th guitar. It has what you are describing, but it is round, not oval. It's in this thread:

I burned my logo onto some top scrap with a branding iron my wife had made for me, cut and sanded around the circle border, and put it right under the soundhole as part of the center seam reinforcement strip (making sure the grain ran the right way). I think it's a nice addition.

I remembered James Orr posting his labels some years ago. A quick search turned up this.

Maybe you saw a photo of the oval wood soundhole labels I had made a while back.

I had a bunch of these laser etched and cut out from a mahogany board. Ahead of time, I routed a channel down the middle of the back of the board that was the width and depth of the center reinforcement strip on the guitar. The labels were centered on that channel so the labels can sit down over the strip and rest on the guitar back.

I also tried using bubinga but there was too much oil in that wood and it burned badly.

LOL!

Those are quite beautiful indeed, I love it.

But I'm a paper guy :)

I'm restoring a 1840's Schmidt and Maul guitar now with the original paper label in pristine condition. I just love it, is all I can say :)
