I have an opportunity to purchase some old growth Cumaru. I've heard its oily, hard to glue. Anybody build guitars with this? Mike |

If it’s not a workable tonewood, understood. It sure as heck would be good for fingerboards, peghead head plates, bridges, etc. it’s pretty dense. |

I have never used it before Mike, my guess is many have not for guitars. But woods like Cocobolo are oily too and there are methods to glue them properly, sand the surface fresh, wipe with acetone etc... But IDK about this one. |

interlocked grain, high silica content, hard to glue, blunts edge tools, what's not to love?  https://www.wood-database.com/cumaru/ Many woods that were not considered to be "tonewoods", now are. It might be the next trendy thing if the right people talk it up. The sample on the wood data base looked pretty plain, but if you can find a piece with swirly curly grain and market it as Brazilian teak it might do fine. |

I haven't built a guitar with it. But I prob never will. I have installed about 10,000 sq ft of this over the years as I'm a General Contractor. It does nothing but burn thru blades, you also need a serious table saw to cut it with. And it's so oily it's the least resistant fire, real wood out there. It's only good for making exterior furniture. |
