Farewell folks !!! This will be my last post here on the OLF. I hope to part ways on the best terms with every single person here. If I have ever offended anyone and it still bothers you, then please contact me. Seriously, I mean that as I'd appreciate the chance to patch things up. That said, I believe I've conducted myself very well here on the OLF and to my knowledge, there are no issues at all with any forum members. I've always tried to be respectful and courteous but that doesn't always get relayed effectively in online settings. If anybody has any questions about guitar building, my door is always open. My contact information can be found at my website: http://www.fayguitars.com For the aspiring builders among us, the best advice I can leave you with is always be open to critique. Early on, I learned so much from folks willing to tell me how to improve my guitars and setting aside my pride to listen to them. The thing is tho', I had to really ask and pressure to ever receive that helpful feedback. When people try out your guitars, most will never give hard, effective critique for fear of offending or being rude. Best of luck to everyone. Always remember shop safety and never get too comfortable around dangerous tools !!! And be kind to one another - life is too short for ego and arrogance. We are all students in this life whether we realize it or not. I'll end things here with a quote from Thomas Szasz that has had a profound impact on my life and especially, as a luthier. “Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-esteem. That is why young children, before they are aware of their own self-importance, learn so easily; and why older persons, especially if vain or important, cannot learn at all.” Your Friend & Luthier Extraordinaire , Simon |

I reached out to Simon directly, but will also say here a public thank you for all your contributions to the OLF. For me personally, all your contributions to my finishing process. Your guidance is an ingredient in the stew, and an important one too. Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Well, so long then and thanks for all the fish, but…why? Have we become that dull? |

LOL Ok, seriously this is my last post. Nobody missed anything. There is no drama. I just find this place a bit too contentious and prickly for my taste. It's been like this for as long as I can remember (I think I was here back in '07 or '08 under my real name). It gets worse and then it gets better and then worse again. A few super knowledgeable and very amicable folks left years ago because of it. I simply rarely post because of it but I have absolutely no hard feelings toward anyone here. I simply have other things that I'd prefer to do with my time ... like figure out the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. Rather than just drift into obscurity .. I just wanted to say goodbye and wish everyone well !!! And also leave my contact information here in case anyone wanted to reach me. |

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I haven’t seen real drama here since Padma, Stock, Philipo left during the great quitting. It’s always sad when folks leave. But honestly, I’ve not noticed any drama. Anyways, so long Toonces. |

Hesh and I are being just a tad dramatic over in the "sad day" thread I hope it's not off-putting to anyone, or an influence in Simon's decision to leave. If so I would rather see myself out for a time, as I haven't been building much lately anyway. So long Simon, and come on back anytime you change your mind! I will always remember you by the waterstone you sold to me years ago. I don't need that level of sharpness very often, but for jointing plates it can't be beat. Thanks again! |

For what it's worth, any drama I've seen in my time on this forum has paled in comparison to the drama that happens on other forums. I consider this a low-drama forum. Simon, thanks for all your posts here and best of luck in the future. |

Have you ever considered that (since you mention you are off to search the meaning of life) that you are not a constant either, and interpret what others say, variably, depending on your own moods and perspectives? Simon, that's my well-wishing reflection to your reflection. I truly wish you well from the bottom of my heart! |

I was thinking more an episode of the Observer Effect intersecting the Hawthorne Effect along with a good dose of Schrödinger's Cat. |
