I assume this is not actually made by Stewmac, anyone got an idea what this actually is?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I don't know but I will say, I don't use water base any more and it's been probably 7 or 8 years since I did, but I tried many of them and that is the one I liked the best. It was not as bluish as the other ones I tried and it seemed to apply better too.

I've read that it's Emtech, but I've tried both and they don't seem the same to me (especially the sealer). I like the colortone way better, so I am interested in this too.
