I've been helping a guy, Jim, build a guitar. I met him one day, while he was walking by the house. He saw me sitting on a bench outside, working (doing something) on a guitar body. We struck up a conversation. He told me that he had an old friend that had bought a kit from LMI 15 years ago, but never got around to building it. He thought that his friend might let him have the kit. Long story short, Jim seemed like a nice guy, so I told him that I would help him build the kit. So, his friend did, in fact, send him the kit and I'm mentoring him (perhaps, more like teaching him). It is a partially serviced kit. The top and back are joined and pretty much thicknessed and the neck blank is cut out, but not carved. The fingerboard is radiused and has the fret slots cut, so that helps. The sides were not bent. Everything needed is in the box, which is convenient. It's a nice kit! Jim is very patient (which is good) and he seems to be having fun. He's making prgress and is about to have the box closed. |

I had 2 apprentices at the same time at work. It wasn't like they didn't know ANYTHING, but they didn't have experience. They were the ages of our oldest kids, and we got along great. I still get email one, after being gone 4 years now. I never communicated with anyone else from that shop, or any other. Or any one else. That's starting to sound pathetic. Anyway, it is nice to share your experience with someone; especially when they are receptive. |

Having been on both sides of this, I can tell you the experience is probably invaluable to him! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
