What is everyone's favorite classical guitar top and back radius. I've been building my acoustic steel string and Ukuleles with 30 and 15. |

I don't use a radius dish for my classical guitars. I made a solara that has a scooped out lower bout about 2mm deep and flat out at the rim. Seems to work well and is a pretty traditional way to do it. |

Seems to work well and is a pretty traditional way to do it. Right on. A solera is not confined to a single radius. You can enforce more dome in front of the bridge compared to behind the bridge. And a flat rim/soundboard plane just looks right to me, as well as making subsequent steps of attaching the back simpler. |

Some people use a cylindrical shape. Plans for Jose Ramirez III guitars seem to indicate cylindrical in the lower bought. |

8 m that's about 26 ft for tops, 5 m - 16 ft for the backs. Yes quite a tight curve for the back. The top is not quite spherical as the upper bout is flattened somewhat to accommodate the glueing of the fretboard and allowing for the angle of the neck. Dave |

6 meter radius for the back but my tops don't have a consistent radius. Depending on the model my top doming is anywhere from 1.5 to 3 mm |

I use the same radii on Classicals that I use on steel strings: 15' back and 25' top. I've heard lots of claims about the acoustic advantages of one or another number or system, but I don't see how you could ever 'prove' anything there. I dome the plates because rapid changes and low wintertime humidity make New England guitar hell, and it seems to help reduce cracking. |
