Stumbled across this just now... https://www.instagram.com/p/Czsbl3ruAY6/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA%3D%3D&fbclid=IwAR39xNBt_zindOxFiehTw1KAn1QUqQ8e43rOXu8MEmu5haEEbjkVT8QrnrM&img_index=1 I'm fascinated by these fractal style devices and dream of building a guitar assembly/repair cradle with this type of mechanism one day. |

I saw that the other day, it looks pretty cool. But it would win for sure if you could do the whole fret in one go. The way the guy is showing means 120 pulls on the arbor for a 20 fret fingerboard… |

That is an over-engineered solution. I'll bet it's also stupid expensive. I'll keep my copper fretting hammer, thank you. |

Pretty cool! I agree it would be nice to only do one press per fret, but since it wouldn't work if one of the contact points falls off the end of the fret, you have to size it to the narrowest one, and then toward the end of the fretboard it's significantly too narrow. It needs a width-adjustment thumb screw. |

Hmm…I see the problem. |

A version that was wide enough for the widest fret would still work for narrower ones if you put some scrap material beside the neck that is approximately the same height. That would enable a single press I think. |

This is the best one yet and my bet is that it works great. We experimented with these for a while and what Dave Collins came up with is very similar to this but this one has two additional adjustors making it better. Impressive and very well done. |

I showed this to Dave and Dave knows the creator. Dave's version has one less pivot point I had that wrong. And there apparently is an issue with it pressing the points in contact with the fret more so than the spaces with no contact resulting in a fret with a wavy top. That's what our's did too. What is different in this one is he is using it differently moving along the fret and repositioning. Dave's was intended to be a single press and..... next. Still not there yet. I had an idea too but never pursued it using fluid dynamics inside the thing so the pressure all along the fret is equaled out by the fluid. Mine would likely take NASA to develop and Chris it would cost as much as a moon shot. |

Sorta like the fire hose clamps you see in big factories for glueing on fingerboards? |
