The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Love it! I use a lot of magnets around my shop. I have a quarter sized rare earth one mounted to a long 3/4 dowel rod for picking up dropped things and some very small ones on 1/8 dowel to pull screws, nuts, bolts, washers etc out of my storage bins. My fingers are too big to fetch some small hardware. I also keep the chuck keys fastened to my drill presses and any other wrenches or Allen keys needed to adjust tools.
