I finally found the bandsaw i want that's in my price range. I bought a Rigid 14" for $175 and 6" riser block kit for $65 from Grizzly.

I didn't expect the pin hole to linr up, but they were pretty close. I drilled the holes larger, just enough so the pinvwould go in. This was my biggest fear when buying this block that was made for a ShopFox saw. Turns out it wasn't an issue at all.

All that's left is to reinstall the motor and try it out. The blade they sent doesn't look too promising, so I'll swap that out before i cut any backs on it.

I know from experience now that a 1/2hp motor easily cut 6" rosewood back pieces, so raise that up 2.5" and add an extra 1/4hp. It's a 3/4hp motor. This should suit me. Grand total minus a good blade was $240.

Yes, i could have bought a better machine, and i was going to, but i just couldn't convince myself that spending that much would be worth it considering how long it takes me to build a guitar. I have 3 sets ready to go, and who knows how long it will take me to build those.

I'm considering trying it out on some local woods for tops. Top wood prices have gotten ridiculous for someone who may or may not ever sell a guitar. "The Pragmatic Luthier" has given me some great ideas.

I've got an old cast iron Delta 14" with a riser block and a 1/2 HP motor. With a good resaw blade (3 tpi) I can cut 5" sides and 8-1/2" backs. Just don't try to cut too fast. Woodslicer blades work well, but dull rather quickly. I'm going to try Spectrum Supply when I can.

I used a Timberwolf 3tpi to cut 3 sets of rosewood recently. Only 6 " backs but the blade held up very well and plan to use one on this saw when the time comes.

You should be fine. There are better resaw blades on the market, but it's hard to beat Timberwolf for quality and price, and I see they have a new 9or newer) blade for resawing veneers.

I have it all set up, including rust removal and waxing the table. I noticed the tires looked pretty bad with lots of cracks. I was still hopeful. Nope, the lower tire almost spun right off when I hit the power button. So, new tires and some wheels are on the way. The only other thing i need to do is take the Kreg fence of the little Delta and put it on the new saw. I can't wait to try this out. I need to buy a 2x12 just to test it.
