One thing that I have to deal with up here in Idaho is that the humidity runs the gammut, it's humid in spring and dry in the summer. I've considered storage cabinets and other items to keep things constant but I don't relish moving wood back and forth...

So after a good deal of searching I hit upon this:

it's essentially a humidifier with a humidistat controller than can do a large room, you hook it up to a water supply and once set your humidity will stay constant. Right now my shop is 31RH which is too low, so I'm ordering one of these for the shop, the air conditioner I'm getting will dehumidify if I need it to which is nice (but it's manual). I'm hoping that with these two combined I can keep the shop right around 47RH all year long

Just thought others in the same boat would like to know, I'm order mine this week and will do some pics and a write up once I get it installed...

What's it like in the winter? Here in the Sierras it gets pretty humid in the winter. I only heat the small 12'x12' assembly and storage room, so I have to dehumidify it some and since it's winter I can't turn on the AC so I have a dehumidifier (Maytag) that seems to do a fairly good job. It takes a little tweeking to keep it at the right level but not bad. In the summer I have a humidifier in the small room and use a swamp cooler in the outer machine area which helps during hot dry times.

Paul that's a good plan of attack. I have a furnace-mounted humidifier that has a humidistat on it, and I mounted that in the basement shop rather than upstairs. In combination with the dehumidifier in the summer months, I can keep it relatively stable. Except for this year. It's been so humid and hot that I turned the thing off a good bit to keep from getting the basement too warm to work in. next year I'm getting a portable AC unit to use instead of the dehumidfier. An AC unit dehumidifies and cools too, which is a preferred way to go in the summer.
