I'm building a Herringbone dread for a friend of mine, and we were discussing binding. He said the traditional ivoroid would be fine. But... I just did my first wood binding on #3, and I really like the way it turned out. How do you think a Herringbone Dread would look with flamed maple binding?

Hi Mark,

Go for it Mark. My last guitar had the same appointments and it looked great.
The Curly maple really set off the back and sides.

Let us know how it works out.

RC Tonewoods has a good supply of maple bindings. He (Bob) can even bend them for you too!!

Say I lived in Red Lodge for many years. I plan on returning to MT next year. Probably not in Red Lodge.
Maybe Billings. My daughter is moving to Helena next year. She is finishing her Medical degree and will open a practice there.

Email me sometime and we will talk MT.

Good Luck!

If you want "white" bindings but wood, Holly is the perfect choice. It is very white and SUPER easy to bend.

Maple would look good too though....

I'm using Bob C's Bloodwood B/W for teh binding on my Rosewood herringbone--he also made a gorgeous backstrip.

For Me It would have to
be the Curly Maple.
But don't go by me I have been
using wood bindings for almost 20 yrs.
I "might" be a little biased.

Yes it is my first one. It is a cedar top. The finish made the already dark top even darker.

Cool. I have a dark cedar top going on this next build, thicknessed it tonight and just laying out the gold pearl celtic rosette, should have it inlayed by the end of the week. So, I'm hopeing that my top will turn out as dark or darker than yours did, cause the gold rosette will just glisten than.

Another vote for maple - it fits in with the light color Martin binding vibe, but with character and visual appeal. (I'm not a big fan of the white Martin bindings).
