Windows won’t load, after replacing my motherboard I’m receiving two messages depending on my boot device order.
If boot order is set to
1st floppy
2nd DVD rom
3rd raid

“Reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in selected boot device and press a key”

If boot order is set to
1st floppy
2nd DVD rom
3rd ied drive

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.

If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for Virus's on your comp.
Remove any newly installed Hard Drives or hard drive controllers.
Check your hard drive to ensure it is properly configured and terminated.
Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption.
And then restart your computer.

The operating system which is windows xp professional was previously setup on my raid drive which consist of 2 western digital raptures. My old mobo was an Asus P4P800 deluxe and my new mobo is an Asus P4s800d-X. I was hoping to get by without formatting and reinstalling. Like a goof I didn’t backup any of my info and would love to be able to save it.

Dale, what happens if you set the boot order to DVD rom first and then the raid cofiguration? Ignore the floppy boot, I don't think anyone uses those anymore. Try to boot to your windows cd and run the chkdsk utility.

Anoither thing you can do is to have a friend burn you a version of Bart's PE. At this site you can create a bootable live CD/DVD. This means you don't need to run off your hard drive, just your DVD drive. If you have two CD/DVD burners, you can access your hard drive and back up any files that aren't corrupt. In fact, I would do this before running the chkdsk utility.

It's a gamble switching out the motherboard without reinstalling XP... Even if you had gotten it to boot, I'd still recommend reinstalling.

It'd be a hassle, but I think if I were in your shoes, I would plug the other motherboard back in, and see if it boots up (might have to boot in Safe mode, or boot with Last Known Good Configuration, get to that menu by hitting F8 repeatedly as it boots). Then back up all your files to CD or DVD or a spare hard drive. Then put in the new motherboard and boot it up fresh with a Windows XP install CD and install everything from scratch.

I get the same results Joe. It's funny about the floppy though. I know there about obselet but that is the only way you can install the raid drivers. You have to make a floppy with the cd provided with the motherboard.

Jon I'm starting to find out how picky xp is when it comes to this. The old motherboard is fried so I can't work with it. I may have to format and start from scratch but I'm going to try to see if I can work around first. I have a feeling it has something to do with the old and new raid drivers being used.

I'd try using a spare hard drive to install Windows XP fresh, and then plug in the other drives (just one if it's RAID mirrored?) and copy the files you need.

The other option is to boot up from the XP disk, and see it if will detect your Windows installation and give you the option to "repair" it instead of installing it fresh. I'd try this last, because the last thing you want to do is alter your hard drives.

Hesh I installed the new drivers,set up the array with the utility provided & enabled the raid in the bios. But what I think is happening is the OS is not finding the new drivers for some reason. I'll probably end up doing a fresh install. I have more than one pc to work with so it isn't like I have to have it done right now. I'll study on it a little while before format. But you can bet if I do get it back,I'll be backing up some files.

I'm telling you, use the Bart's to recover your files. At the college I work at, we are constantly re-imageing student machines. Using the Bart's we are able to backup the files the students want to save (most of them at least).

Joe, I'll check it out. I've been on the phone with a guy from the IT department at work and he mentioned the same thing or something like it. I'm going to hook up with him tomorrow and were going to sit down with it together. He's more of a software guy than I am. I can deal with the hardware and physical aspects of it but I don't have the patience for software. I swear I have adult attention deficit disorder.

Well I'm up and running again on this PC. I ended up doing a fresh install, couldn't save any of my data. The main problem I had was XP wouldn't recognise that the raid drive was partitioned even though it was with my old setup. So really no matter what I tried it Wouldn't read the raid array. Thanks for all the help and suggestions guy's, we tried.
