For any given scale, does it take less tension to get a smaller guage string to a particular note?

I think this is true - physics classes were a long time ago.

Longer string length = lower resonant frequency
Greater mass = lower resonant frequency
Lower tension (pull) = lower resonant frequency

The opposite condition = opposite effect

The smaller gauge string wants to vibrate at a higher pitch (CPS) because of its lower mass.SteveCourtright38972.6242939815

Smaller the string dia. the less tesion required for a given pitch. I.E. light gauge string cause less loading at pitch than medium gauge strings.

Listen to Michael, I posted that McDonald tension calculator a while back, and I use it all the time. He is the one that helped me with the bouzouki build. Very good guy, and great information.
