REALLY cool retro instrument!! Well done!!!

If you want a taste of how "Rockin'" lap steel can be then listen to Robert Randolf & the family band. They supported Clapton on the European leg of his tour last year.

Voodoo Chile done on a steel has to be heard to be believed!!!

Let's not confuse the lap steel with what Randolf and the Sacred Steel guys are playing. Their steel guitars have the whole complement of pedals and knee levers. Much different! Kind of like comparing a piano and a pipe organ. They've both got keyboards, but the similarity stops there.

I think pedal steel purists would argue that people like Robert Randolph actually play more like a lap steel player (i.e. not enough use of the levers) although I agree that all those extra strings are a big help even without the levers. If you want lap steel in the Sacred Steel tradition then Darick Campbell of the Campbell Brothers is the obvious one that springs to mind. Robert Randolph also played some dobro on his last album, by the way.

Nice job Russ! I really like the vibe of those Lap
Kings and you played right along with the theme.

Randolph plays a big 'ol pedal steel but I don't think
I've ever seen him use the pedals or levers. Also
there are lots of Sacred Steel guys playing straight
lap steels, but there is usually both in the band so
it's hard to tell just from listening.Mike Dotson39001.6102083333
