Thanks to some nice cocobolo I got from the Zootman a while back, I have been putting together this little fellow/fellowette...

I have switched over to the reversed kerfing and like it MUY better than the triangular stock I have been using up to now.

What a beauty Russ whats going on the top? I also LOVE The reverse stuff. For my last two I used the triangular stuff on top and Guitar Jigs Spanish Cedar Reversed for the back, Mmmmm the smell

This one is going to get an Austrian spruce top....very white and rings like a tele-marketer! :)

What are the reasons why the Reverse kerfing is preferred by many Luthiers??
As opposed to the triangular?

I've only ever used reverse kerfed lining, so take this with a big grain of rock salt, but here's my likes for the stuff: it adds rigidity (the 'web' is on the outside, so you get kind of an i-beam effect with the side and the web keeping the 'blocks' between the kerfs stable), and it looks very neat. It's also rectangular in cross section, so if you route through the sides, you have a bit more support lower down. I like the way it works and looks, so I don't see any reason to even try traditional triangular linings.
