it should also be noted that the amount of compensation necessary will vary with scale length, action height, string brand, and playing style.

    Actually the saddle on most classicals is 90 and steel strings should be about 3 degrees. The angle of compesation can be tricky to understand but if you want as good an intonation as you can get from an acoutic there are a few variables.
1 String gage and type
2 scale length

    So what angle ? In my experience I find 3 about right with a .120 min slot. This will allow the intonation to be adjusted to the stings working length. Remember that scale length is a static deminsion and the working length of the string is dynamic. In compensating you are trying to match the 2. The strings working length to the scale length of the fret board.
    With the angle and the saddle thickness you can compensate the saddle to the sting gage and type. This method will get you as good an intonated acoustic guitar as you can.
