as a total amateur at this building lark, could I make a comment as a TEACHER.

sometimes it takes someone whos nearer the student's level to explain something.

Sometimes the "expert" takes much for granted and assumes that the student should know certain stuff.

this is certainly my experience as a highschool teacher, and often I've asked a student to explain something to a classmate as they don't understand what I'm trying to explain.

Like a 3 yearold drawing a picture, some of us are proud of what we've done even if it would be laughed out of the room at a big guitar show.

I have HUGE respect for those who have made a career of Luthiery, but I'm grateful for those here who allow us noobs to mess around in the sandpit and try things ourselves.

I KNOW that if I'm gonna do this seriously, even as a hobby, I'll need a hot pipe to bend on, and the wallpaper stripper will go back into storage until I next need to remove wallpaper, but FOR NOW it works on Rosewood and walnut and oak.

I came up with the bridge placement jig that there's a thread on here about and I'm proud of it and will continue to use it for the forseeable.

If I've offended anyone here I'm truely sorry.

but then offence has to be TAKEN.......

Actively........

Mario,

Your attitude toward me was in no way respectful. If still there, your words last January stand as mute testimony to that. I now wish I had taken the time to simply edit my posts, leaving out only my negative comments. I recall answering every example you then mentioned in them.

[BTW, I regard the X brace as the main transmission line for all frequencies from the bridge to the soundboard, and have demonstrated to myself hundreds of times that anything butting against it impedes the release of whatever frequency finds resonance at that place on the X. The rings that I refer to may not necessarily be perfect circles, but are close enough for my "tool", as my friend calls it, to be of practical, analytical and corrective value. And, I have only looked into three vintage Martins with a mirror, but they all had carefully shaped parabolic finger braces.]

In the thread on the muted B string, I in no way got "torqued". There was absolutely nothing negative about my response. As I said in that post, "better" is not "fixed", to me, and I simply offered suggestions to Andy on how I would track down any brace(s) that might also be adding to the problem, once the gas tank was filled, to use your metaphor. Let's leave "spin" to politicians.

That Andy chose not to get back about my suggestions is no problem for me, either. No one has to believe, or even read what I write, but I should be able to do so without having my words twisted out of meaning, or have unintended meanings read into them.

Like most of us, I am here to learn, as well as to share. I certainly do not claim to have all the answers, and I welcome debate or discussion with anyone, so long as it is respecful. I would welcome feeling that coming from you.

Scott

I try to be nice, fair and impartial. I am not judgmental of anyone on this forum, except maybe my
self and how I tend to moderate sometimes to lightly.
I posted this message as a reminder of what we are here for, and how we should view the comments of others,
Both professional and amateur and everything in-between. THEN I went onto say that I am NOT soliciting your comments.
This was simply a reminder! Yet here we are a day later with a path of destruction.

Listen folks, it IS what is IS, if we cannot get along then the OLF in its current state will stop exciting.
IT may always be here, but we have developed a very open environment, free of most rules and regulations.
This has allowed us to -- for the most part -- thrive, but it will only work if we all follow the same guidlines of
kindness.

I am locking this thread right now so that the fire will die off, frankly, I'm tired of it, and I have way more important things going on in my life right now. Trying to play peace keeper aint one of them!

In the grand scheme of things, the OLF is but one small part of our lives, Right now I'm dealing with a sick dog, just got back from MSU veterinarian clinic, and my wife's grandfather had a heart attack last night, so right after I make this post were off to the hospital to deal with something MUCH MORE important than this.

Try to keep this all in perspective. Be nice to one another and well all be better off in the long run.

Build ON Brothers!
