I ran across a reference for a new classical guitar building book that will
be on the market in February 2007. It's entitled, "Classical Guitar Making:
A Modern Approach to Traditional Design" by John S. Bogdanovich. 320
pages. Lists for $29.95, available for $19.95 from one of the main on-
line book sellers.

I do not know Mr. Bogdanovich, have no stake in his book and can not
vouch for the quality of the content. I just wanted to alert you all to its
publication so you can decide for yourselves.

Here's an on-line book description:

"What a thrill for any musician: playing a fine-sounding instrument that
he or she has lovingly crafted from scratch. With this richly illustrated
manual, well-known luthier and guitarist John Bogdanovich shows exactly
how to build that first, beautiful guitar, using traditional, time-tested
methods. All that’s required are basic woodworking techniques and a
minimally equipped shop. Bogdanovich discusses the anatomy of the
guitar, sound, choosing an instrument, selecting woods, templates and
molds, and preparation. In more than 300 pages of text, he painstakingly
lays out the details of construction, from assembling the neck and sides
to installing the fingerboard and bridge."

Thanks for the heads up Greg. I didn't know about the book but Bogdanovich is an outstanding builder so I'm guessing the book will be a great reference. On his website he mentions John Gilbert and Greg Byers as guys who helped with the info in the book. In my opinion John Gilbert is hands down the best luthier ever from the U.S. If you ever get a chance to play one of his guitars, you'll be amazed at how awesome they sound. Greg Byers is also no slouch as some of the best players in the world play his guitars. This book sounds like it should be an outstanding resource.

Cheers!

John

It's on 'the list' for me.
