I want it, but the bank account says no

Gee Shane you only need a couple more like it to finish off the siding of your shop there

It seems kind of a shame to cut a piect that big into guitar back and sides... Can you imagine how much you could get for a swanky conference table made out of that.

I thought about that, but there isn't really much call for $25-30,000 conference tables in my northern town. Although one of my books states that it is great workbench top wood, Danny must know that already! Besides....it's too late! And it won't be just backs and sides, there will be some head plates, end grafts and rosette blanks and a few bindings as well. All you would need is a nice top! And I know where a guy/gal could get a couple of those too!

Dang! No way that would get cut up around here. There's no less than 4 suppliers locally that would want that for a table top. Almost seems a shame to me.

HOLY COW!!!

I’ve never seen a slab that big before!

Absolutely beautiful grain!

So, what kind of wood is it?

Where does it come from?

That must have been quite an investment!

Dude,

So where do I get a case from big enough for that guitar!!

Nice score, I bet you might be able to sneak a few harp guitar b/s sets out of that amongst the other stuff.

I'd make an upright bass with one piece back.

Yup, Pommelle Bubinga it is. At first I thought it would a shame to slice it up for backs and sides as well, but hey, it is only about the same size as the logs I slice up for tops. Besides, like I told the shipper, if it was conference table in 20 years someone would probably paint it paisly or something and 10 years after that it would end in the dump. At least as high end, hand crafted guitars, it has a chance for a lot of it to 'sing' for generations.

Just my musings

Shane

Whoa -- now that's buying wholesale! I didn't realize Pommelle Bubinga was that large a tree.

I think Todd Stock nailed it -- modern board room tables need too much room circuitry for all the electronic gizmos we use today.

Bubinga might just make a very nice sounding archtop.

Shane when are you going to start slicing that monster up?

If you were to make a table out of it, it is just another table...

but turn it into guitars, and it will sing.....

to me, there is never a question what a good piece of wood should be used for
