Interesting. For those who are, I'd be grateful to know which specific aspects draw you to that one........or the other one for that matter. (Call it market research). Thanks

By the way Matt, both tops are X-braced.

Dave, for me it's the color of the soundboard, and then the mottled tones
in it. Are the tones truly varied, or are the darker/lighter spots due to
lighting and shadow? I'd love to know which dye you used if you don't
mind sharing?

Those are fantastic looking guitars! Its hard to believe that they are a 2nd and 3rd effort, keep up the good work...
Ive always wondered about the difference in weight with respect to archtops, as Ive played alot of prewar Gibsons and newer based on Benedetto type jazzboxes and found the weights to be drastically different between the two types.
The Old Gibbys seemed much lighter and had unplugged acoustic properties moreso that the Benedetto clones... are there two different schools of thought at work here? Or is it as with the "other" weight discussion happening on the forum right now, that they just built them lighter before the war for whatever reason {warranty claims, better building stock, etc}?
Cheers

James, tones are truly, to the point that I was afraid it looked a blotchy. Carving exposes surface end grain which really sucks up the colour. My red/brown varnished violin was much more uniform. As far as colours, its a mix (dk.red, light sheridan mahogany & others and endless samples) to get the colour & intensity managable.

Charliewood, I really can't answer re weights except to say that I try to build light but am probably still way overbuilding (the redhead is 2441g as you see it and 2023g without tuners, strings tailpc.& bridge. I don't (but would LOVE to) know if that's good or bad for an archtop.

I too, am drawn the second guitar.  I think it is the warm, comfortable look, and maybe the slightly different design that is a bit of a departure from the norm.  It is sexy.

Now THAT'S entertainment! Man, you're on your way to stardom if those are numbers two and three! Just beautiful.

I like 'em both, but I too was drawn to the "Redhead." I like its elegant simplicity, especially the unadorned fingerboard. The finish and color are warm and inviting, and the soundholes announce that something unique is going on here. It looks like it's ready to make music! BTW, the slight color variations on "Red" give the finish a hand-applied look that I think is very appealing. It all looks old-world and modern at the same time. Nice!

Very, very, very, very nice. I'm a complete sucker for the look of a blonde archtop instrument (guitar, mando, whatever), even if I can't play any of them!

Wow how did I miss this thread! Superb Dave -- both of them. Which do I like better? I'll let you know after I get to play'em both.

Without tipping the scales as to which I like better. I really like how you matched the curve of the fingerrest to the "f" hole...I just may plagarize that idea for one of my own

How do the two compare soundwise?   The redhead I would guess has larger soundholes -- do you find an appreciable difference in the projection between the two?

Again superb work! Nothin sexier than an archtop!

Thanks again for all the kind words

Anthony, I actually sized the soundholes the be the same surface area ) another benefit of cadd. They sound different but it's a bit of apples/oranges, since the redhead is deeper and strung with Martin acoustics (bronze) rather than flatwounds.
